Senior/Staff Product Engineer

AI agents are starting to search, compare and book on behalf of people. Most hotels are invisible to them. At Bluerails we are building the infrastructure that lets hotels be found, priced and booked by those agents directly.

We’re a small AI native team with high ownership and no engineering managers. Engineers own a part of the product end to end: the code, the product decisions and the customers. The people who join now won’t just build the product but will shape the company, how we work, who we hire, what we build and what we stand for. We’re looking for a Senior/Staff Product Engineer to own big parts of the platform and help decide what we build next.

What you’ll do

• Own product areas end to end, from the first customer conversation through spec, architecture, build, rollout and the numbers afterwards.
• Work directly with hotels and partners. You’ll join onboarding calls, learn each hotel’s constraints and check every morning whether what you shipped is working for them.
• Build integrations with messy systems, such as booking engines, channel managers and payment providers. Make them reliable and observable, and design them so a failure doesn’t stop a booking.
• Make the key technical decisions on your area: data model, API and protocol design, the build-vs-buy trade-off, and what not to build.
• Ship fast without lowering the bar. That means integration tests over wishful thinking, clean rollouts and code someone else can pick up.
• Use AI as your default toolkit. Claude Code, Cursor and agents are how we work, not an experiment. We care about the judgment you bring: deciding what to build and catching when the AI is confidently wrong.
• Raise the bar for the team through design reviews, written decisions and the habits we’ll scale with.

What you need

• 6+ years building and shipping products, with a track record of owning complex systems in production and seeing them through.
• Strong full-stack engineering skills with real depth on the backend. We care about fundamentals, not about which language or framework you’ve used. Our stack is TypeScript, Postgres and AWS Lambda but we are not fixated on it.
• Experience building zero-to-one products, at an early-stage startup, as a founding engineer, or by owning a new product line.
• Comfortable with distributed systems problems and fundamentals like idempotency, retries, failures that only some systems see, and keeping data consistent across systems.
• Product judgment. You can write a spec, spot a UX problem, push back on scope and make reasonable design calls without a designer present.

Nice to have

• Hands-on work with LLMs, agents, MCP, and agent native workflows.
• Experience in payments or fintech, especially European payments or regulated systems.
• Experience in Travel or hospitality tech with property management systems, channel managers, booking engines, OTAs.
